Along with the development of operating system, more and more services become common core services. Now, an OS may need to provide network services and Internet connectivity, which used to not be a common core services. Operating systems also need to keep the damage to computer systems from interference destructive programs from other computers, such as viruses. List of common core services will continue to grow.
Programs communicate with each other with Application Programming Interface, Application Programming Interface, or shortened by the API. With this API application program can communicate with the Operating System.
