A few easy steps increases performance of Windows XP

tips increases performance Windows XPIf you think that by having adequate hardware to your computer’s performance will be good, then your assumption is not all true. Because the fact many computer devices that have a good hardware but not optimally computer performance. To improve the performance of your computer, here are some tips that you can easily do. But you should know that the tips on improving computer performance is only for computers using Windows XP operating system. Below are tips you can do:

1. Defrag Disk to Speed Up Data Access
One of the factors that slow computer performance is disk fragmentation. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece back together. To speed up response time, you should monthly run Disk Defragmenter, Windows utility that defrags and combining fragmented files for quicker computer response.
to start doing defrag please follow the steps below.
* Follow Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter
* Click the drive you want to defrag and click Analyze
* Click Defragment

2. Detecting and Repair Disk Errors
Over time, the hard disk developed bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing difficult or even impossible. To detect and repair disk errors, Windows has a built-in tool called the Error Checking utility. It will search your hard disk for bad sectors and repairs system errors and their performance more quickly.
To detect and repair disk errors follow these steps:
* Follow Start> My Computer
* In My Computer right click your hard disk that you want to scan and click Properties
* Click the Tools tab
* Click Check Now
* Select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box
* Click Start

3. Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Services is a small application that uses lots of CPU. By indexing and update the list of all files on the computer, it will help you to do a search for something faster like a list of index scans. However, if you know where your files, you can disable this system service. There would be no harm to your machine, if you search often or not very often.
to begin to Disable Indexing Services, you can perform the steps below.
* Go to Start
* Click Settings
* Click Control Panel
* Double-click Add / Remove Programs
* Click Add / Remove Windows Components
* Uncheck the Indexing services
* Click Next

4. Optimize Display Settings
Windows XP is the audience. But the cost of your system resources are used to display all the items and visual effects. Windows looks fine if you disable most of the settings and left the following:
* Show shadows under menus
* Show shadows under mouse
* Show translucent selection rectangle
* Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
* Use visual styles on windows and buttons

5. Speedup Folder Browsing
You may have noticed that every time you open My Computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every time you open Windows Explorer. To remedy this and to increase browsing speed, you can turn off “automatically search for network folders and printers” option.

6. Disable Performance Counters
Windows XP has a performance monitor utility which monitors several areas the performance of your PC. This utility takes the system resources so deadly is a good idea.
* Download and install the Extensible Performance Counter List (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/exctrlst-o.asp)
* Then select each counter in turn in the ‘Extensible performance counters’ window and delete the ‘performance counters enabled’ checkbox at the bottom button below

7. Optimize Pagefile
You can optimize your pagefile. Define the size of your pagefile will still keep the operating system from the need to change the pagefile size.
* Right click on My Computer and select Properties
* Select the Advanced tab
* Under Performance choose the Settings button
* Select the Advanced tab again and under Virtual Memory select Change
* Highlight the drive containing your page file and make the beginning of the file size equals Maximum file size.

Windows XP page file size of 1.5X the amount of actual physical memory by default. While this is good for the system with a smaller amount of memory (under 512MB) it is unlikely that a typical XP desktop system need 1.5 X 512MB or more virtual memory. If you have less than 512MB memory, leave the page file on the standard size. If you have 512MB or more, change the ratio of 1:1 page file size of physical memory size.

8. Remove Fonts for Speed
Fonts, especially TrueType fonts, use quite a lot of system resources. For optimal performance, trim your fonts down to just the people you need to be used on a daily basis and fonts that applications may require.
* Open Control Panel
* Open Fonts folder
* Move fonts you do not need a temporary directory (eg C: \ FONTBKUP?) In case you need or want to bring some of them back. The more fonts you uninstall, the more system resources you will gain.

9. Use Flash Memory to Improve Performance
To improve performance, you need to install additional RAM memory. This will let you boot your OS much faster and run many applications and access data faster. There is easiest and more technically elegant way to do it than use eBoostr (http://www.eboostr.com).

eBoostr is a small program that lets you enhance the performance of each computer, powered by Windows XP in much the same way as Vista’s ReadyBoost. With eBoostr, if you have a flash drive, such as a USB flash thumb drive or SD card, you can use to make your computer run better. Simply plug the flash drive via the USB socket and Windows XP will use eBoostr to use flash memory to improve performance.

Product showed the best results for frequently used applications and data, which became a great feature for people who use office programs, graphics applications or developer tools. That certainly will draw special attention as laptop upgrade laptop owners are usually more complicated and laptop hard drives are by definition slower than the desktop.

10. Doing the Boot Defragment
There are simple ways to speed up XP startup: make your system do a boot defragment, which will put all the boot files next to each other on the hard disk. When boot files are near one another, your system will start more quickly.

On most systems, boot defragment should be enabled by default, but maybe not to you, or may have changed by accident. To make sure that boot defragment is enabled:
* Run the Registry Editor
* Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Dfrg \ BootOptimizeFunction
* Set the Enable string value to Y if it is not already set to Y.
* Exit the Registry
* Reboot

I hope the above tips to make your computer’s performance to maximum and you can do your job well.
